Woodland Grove

A Walk in the Woods

Having designed the Lied Conference Center nearly 40 years ago we were thrilled to be brought back to the Arbor Day Farm. The events of the past few years made ADF take a new look at their amenities. The result was a realization that they could add some additional outdoor spaces for people to be together. Inspired by the Council Rings used by Danish-American landscape architect Jens Jensen, our design team, including Olsson Associates, collaborated with the ADF team to create these new spaces.

Project Details

Location
Nebraska City, NE

Scope of Work
New Construction

Date of Completion
2023

The first council ring is located directly north of the Lodge terrace and at the east end of the wedding lawn, a new contemplative path stems off this ring guiding you on a walk through the hazelnut field to a second council ring located within the hazelnuts.

The path continues through the rest of the field to the Woodland Grove, an elevated board walk which derives its design from the council rings and the form of a hazelnut blossom. The project is a unique experience for visitors to the Lodge, families on a weekend trip, corporate outings, family reunions, and one-of-a-kind weddings.
