The Breakers

From Derelict to Dynamic

Our visionary clients at NuStyle Development saw opportunity in this abandoned OPPD power plant located on the Missouri River. The APMA team helped overcome the seemingly insurmountable challenges, turning three derelict industrial buildings – with only metal catwalks throughout – into modern, urban-luxury living that attracts residents to formerly abandoned part of town.

The original power plant was constructed in 1889 and was listed to the National Register of Historic in July of 2015.

Three historic masonry structures were united: Switchgear, Turbine Hall, and Boiler Plant. The final design features 218 residential units with subterranean parking incorporated into existing basements.

“People love the historical nature of the building. This is what grew Omaha – this power plant.”

Todd Heistand
NuStyle Development

Many living units include remnants and elements from the original building; exposed structure and brick, glass block windows and concrete ceilings to name a few.
