APMA partnered with BLDD on the 58,019 SF renovation and 14,995 SF, 10-classroom addition to Sunny Slope Elementary, part of Omaha Public Schools. The existing 1972 building was designed as an open plan school. The new design eliminated the open plan and updated building systems in order to create a more efficient facility that addressed growth needs, including safety and security issues. The team worked closely with the stakeholders and project management team to minimize the impact on the educational process while completing the job on schedule. APMA and the Educational Specification teams met regularly to confirm the community and school’s understanding of the scope of work. The team conducted surveys of teachers and students, hosted tours of exemplar schools, and held workshops to uncover aspirations and needs related to the design.
